ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION WITH THE PRIVATE SECTOR ON OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES IN VIET NAM’S ENERGY TRANSITION

 
In preparation for the upcoming Vietnam – German Government Consultations, scheduled to take place on 27th of April 2023, the German Embassy on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the GIZ Energy support Programme hosted a roundtable discussion with the private sector on opportunities and challenges in Viet Nam’s energy transition. The event took place in the afternoon of 25th April 2023, with the participation from National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT), Petro Viet Nam (PVN), solar EPCs and investors, onshore and offshore wind enterprises, Power-to-X companies, and the banking sector.
Dr. Andreas Förster, BMZ Head of Division East Asia, South-East Asia emphasized in the event: “Your input during the deep-dive discussions on energy transition, required policies and finance today are invaluable for us and for the upcoming government to government consultations later this week. Public and private interaction is more important than ever to take the next steps in Viet Nam’s power sector transition. I am confident that together we can make a meaningful contribution to a sustainable and low-carbon energy future for Viet Nam.”

Viet Nam has faced power shortage due to the unstable world energy market and the extreme weather, affecting the production enterprises, especially those in the industrial production sector. Surveys from the National Energy Efficiency Program for the period of 2019-2030 show that the potential for energy saving in the industrial sector in Viet Nam is about approx. 20% - 30% of total energy consumption.
