BP28 - Replace chiller use piston by screw

Address: District 1, Ho Chi Minh City
Project Summary: A building in Ho Chi Minh City implemented the project to replace the old Chiller system with the Daikin wind-cooled Chiller system
Year of implementation: 2018

Status before implementation

The building used 2 Chillers of York, which were air-cooled and installed on the 18th floor of the building. The cooling capacity of each Chiller is 150 RT.

Chiller system before renovation

The Chiller system was designed with 2 reciprocating compressors. The refrigerant in use was R22. R22 must be gradually replaced according to the Montreal Protocol. The Chiller system had only one load reduction level (50% reduction). Besides, the use of reciprocating compressors has caused to the system low cooling efficiency, loud noise and high vibration.

Chiller's COP coefficient averaged about 2.2 (lower than the initial COP value of 2.8) and the average PIC coefficient was 1.61kW/ RT. Comparing the COP and PIC coefficients of the existing Chiller system in the Somerset building with the COP and PIC coefficients specified in Regulation 09: 2013/BXD (COP = 3.1 and PIC = 1,133 kW / RT for air-cooled Chiller system), the Chiller system in Somerset was of a very low performance compared to QCVN 09: 2013 Regulation.

Result

The old Chiller system has been replaced with Daikin air-cooled chiller system. The system consists of 8 modules linked together. This new Chiller system is controlled via a central control system.

Chiller system after improvement

In addition to replacing Chiller, an inverter for the cold water pump system and in a new pump with a capacity of 7.5 kW have been installed.
