WORKSHOP “ENERGY TRANSITION – PATHWAY TO NET-ZERO IN 2050”

Event start at: 05/08/2022 (Thứ 6)
WORKSHOP “ENERGY TRANSITION – PATHWAY TO NET-ZERO IN 2050” took place on the afternoon of August 5, 2022 with the chairmanship of Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh, Vice Chairman of The National Assembly Committee on Science, Technology and Environment (CSTE)
More than 160 delegates from Science, Technology and Environment Committee, Ministry of Industry and Trade, Department of Science and Technology of Ninh Binh province, Department of Industry and Trade of Nam Dinh, Thanh Hoa, Thai Binh provinces, international development agencies, as well as domestic and foreign experts participated in the seminar in both face-to-face and online form.
The objective of the workshop is to share experiences in promoting the energy transition in the world and Germany in order to accelerate the process of adaptation and response to climate change as well as to provide an overview of the policies of Viet Nam that has been promoting sustainable transformation.
Climate change is posing increasingly serious challenges to Vietnam's economic sectors. In that context, Vietnam has been applying new development models based on two roadmaps (i) adapting to climate change and (ii) mitigating the impacts of climate change in the growth process. by cutting emissions from economic activities. According to the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) report of the Government of Vietnam submitted to the UNFCCC in July 2020, 73% of Vietnam's carbon emissions come from the energy sector, so the rate of change Energy transition to clean energy sources will play an important role in Vietnam's carbon emission reduction. Energy transition will continue to take place far and wide not only in the energy sector but also in other sectors such as transportation, industry, construction and agriculture. This means that energy demand will have a strong shift from gasoline, oil, and coal to electricity, gas and new forms of energy. In the past three years (2018-2021), the structure of Vietnam's power sources has made strong changes in line with the general global development trend, towards prioritizing the development of clean and renewable energy sources. create. By the end of 2021, the total installed capacity of power sources will reach 78,121 GW; in which, solar power is 16.6 GW, accounting for 21.3% (including rooftop solar power) and wind is 4.6 GW, accounting for 6%. The energy transition is driven by policies to support the development of renewable energy, upgrade the infrastructure system, and plan to gradually reduce investments in fossil fuels. direct impact on the national emission reduction strategy.
The workshop is in the framework of the project Clean, Affordable and Secure Energy for Southeast Asia (CASE)
