LEARNING PROGRAM ON ENERGY EFFICIENCY IN TEXTILE AND GARMENT FACTORIES

The Learning Program in “Energy Efficiency in Textile and Garment Factories” is developed under the Regional Project “Promotion of Sustainability in the Textile and Garment Industry in Asia” (FABRIC), which is implemented by The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). This Learning Program is being offered free at Asia Garment Hub.

Program information:

1. Learning content: Energy management systems - international standards and brands’ requirements, energy assessment, setting energy baselines and targets, energy efficiency measures for processes and utilities in textile and garment factories, energy action plans, energy monitoring and measurement, necessary skills to work with, train and coach factories and energy teams.

2. Target audience: This Program is targeting service providers in energy efficiency or energy management in textile and garment sectors. Engineers and managers at textile and garment factories may see the Program useful for their professional works.

3. Learning objectives: This Program is aimed to provide advanced and up-to-date knowledge on energy efficiency, energy management challenges, and best practices in textile and garment industry. It enables professionals to assess and improve energy performance in a systematic way. After completing the learning program, the participants shall be able to:

● Relate to elements of energy management system as per international guidelines and standards (e.g. ISO50001, Higg FEM and requirements of textile and garment (T&G);

● Relate to Energy Audit Methodology as per ISO50002 and conduct deep-dive energy efficiency assessment in T&G factories;

● Map material and energy flows in T&G processes and utilities using tools such as Sankey diagram, energy balance and eco-mapping;

● Assess and conduct energy balance of T&G processes and utilities;

● Propose EE measures for identified losses along with technical and financial pre-feasibility assessment;

● Develop energy objectives, targets and action plan along with monitoring and measurement plan;

● Develop energy team and assessing competence needs in the organization to develop an energy awareness competence development program;

4. Learning topics: The Program consists of the following modules:

I. Energy Management System for textile and garment factories

II. Getting ready for change

III. Energy assessment

IV. Analyzing and documenting processes and energy flow in textile and garment factories
